No-Buy Year Update

·

Earlier this year, I talked about my No-Buy Year. It was going well. I reported feeling slower, experiencing less decision fatigue, and emphasizing giving.

I fell off the wagon because I forgot about No-Buy Year.

“Poppy got a little sloppy.”

I’m of two minds on the subject of spending. On the one hand, No-Buy Year is terrific for all of the reasons previously discussed by everyone. On the other hand, Dave Ramsey et seq. have us all so focused on not spending that we idolize finances differently. Money is a big deal, and money is not a big deal.

I’m going to re-apply the rules from the beginning of the year to try and finish out the holiday season strong:

  1. Giving is unlimited and emphasized.
  2. Per Paco De Leon’s advice, I’m keeping a personal catalog of things I *might* want to buy in the future. Most things fall off quickly.

Those rules will let me use my financial blessings for good, save up for things I actually *do* want, and, here is a bonus: Stick it to The Man!
